Position: Assistant Mortician
Department: Funeral Home
Job Location: Leondale
Job Purpose:
To prepare and care for deceased people with dignity, respect, and professionalism by performing body preparation activities, including washing, dressing, coffining, and embalming where required. The role is responsible for maintaining mortuary facilities, monitoring the condition of deceased bodies, ensuring the proper operation of cold storage facilities, and supporting the efficient delivery of funeral services while adhering to health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 is desirable
- Numeracy and Literacy Aptitude
- Any training related to hygiene principles, chemical use and/or embalming
Experience Required:
A minimum of one (1) year’ experience in a similar role, with exposure to:
- Receiving and transferring deceased persons in accordance with company procedures
- Assisting with the preparation, dressing, and presentation of deceased persons
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards within the mortuary environment
- Supporting funeral arrangements and preparation for viewings and services
- Adhering to health, safety, and infection control protocols at all times
- Handling mortuary records and documentation accurately and confidentially
- Providing professional and compassionate support when interacting with bereaved families and stakeholders
